**This course will provide the participant with 1 Ethics Learning Type BACB® CEUs**
Description of Learning Type CE Event: If you’re a BCBA, you’ve heard the words “Private Equity,” and, more than likely, you have a negative opinion of it. Private equity firms own 85% of for-profit ABA companies, and whether we like it or not, that percentage will probably not decrease anytime soon. We’re constantly hearing about how bad PE is for ABA, but what if the things we think we know about PE aren’t true? What if there’s more to the story? As BCBAs, it’s drilled into our heads that we don’t make any clinical decisions without first assessing the data, so why do we treat private equity differently?
In this CEU, you’ll learn what private equity is, why it’s our ethical duty to understand what’s going on, research for and against it, and the risks and benefits of PE in ABA. You’ll also hear original research from the presenter that debunks some of the myths surrounding PE: When it comes to PE-owned ABA companies, are caseloads actually bigger? Do BCBAs actually get paid more? The goal of this presentation isn’t to change your mind about private equity but rather to get you to think about why you believe what you believe. And maybe we can change the narrative from “All private equity is evil” to “Private equity exists… and here’s what I’m doing to make a positive change in my company.”
