CEU Requirements FAQ
How many CEUs does a BCBA® need to recertify?
32 CEUs every 2-year recertification cycle. Of those, 4 must be ethics CEUs, and if you supervise, you also need supervision CEUs: 4 for recertifications on or after January 1, 2027 (3 if you recertify by December 31, 2026). The rest are yours to fill with any Learning-type CEUs #doyou. Every CEU course on our site counts.
How many CEUs does a BCaBA® need?
As a BCaBA®, you are required to obtain 20 continuing education units (CEUs) within each 2-year recertification cycle, including 4 CEUs in ethics and 3 CEUs in supervision (for supervisors). Every CEU course on our site counts toward it; just double-check that the course matches your certification level!
Do unused CEUs roll over to my next cycle?
Nope, BACB® rule: no rollover. Every cycle starts from zero, so pace yourself (or grab a bundle and knock out a chunk at once)
Can I retake a course I already took for more CEUs?
No. Per the BACB®, repeating CE activities of any CEU type does not provide new or expanded knowledge or skills and, therefore, does not meet BACB® certification requirements. Once you have earned credit for a course, taking it again will not earn you credit a second time. Good news: with 130+ courses, you will not run out of new ones.
Do your courses meet the BACB®'s 2026 participation-monitoring requirement?
YES. As of July 1, 2026, the BACB® requires on-demand CE to include knowledge checks (at least 3 assessment questions per CEU). Our courses have always been built with quizzes, so nothing changes for you. You're covered.
Where do I report my CEUs?
You self-report through your BACB® portal. Everything you need is on your certificate, which downloads instantly when you pass the course quiz. Keep copies of everything #auditproof.
Course Related FAQ
This is my first experience with CEUs what should I expect?
Well first, WELCOME! We are so happy to have you and so excited that you are looking into our continuing education courses!!! Second, we pride ourselves on being #real, so we want to be as clear as possible with your expectations of our courses.
- The purpose of earning CEUs (aside from the obvious of keeping your certification) is for you to grow as a behavior analyst by taking part in activities to build upon your specific skill set, to expand your knowledge "past" the task list, and to stay current with the field as a whole. You can find more specific information as it relates to CEUs in general on the Behavior Analysis Certification Board website https://www.bacb.com/bcba/
- So what does that mean? We want to be 1000000% clear that while these courses will do a ton of the "heavy lifting" for you to expand your knowledge, at the end of the day, it is up to YOU and you alone to know exactly how much more expanding you personally need in order to incorporate this into your practice. Meaning, you may have to continue to research topics/concepts by yourself (on your own time) to feel as though you have a better grasp of what was taught in a CEU Course.
- Expectations for CEU courses, in general, are VERY different than studying for the exam with us. Specifically, that there is no set task list of information or specific requirements of what should be covered. We have found that some of our collective alumni/former students miss the "hand-holding" (for lack of a better term) that we are able to provide in a study preparation type-setting. While we would LOVE to spend as much time expanding upon concepts and principles it is just not feasible in this type of setting/level of instruction.
We will always do what we can to stay #real with you so we want to make sure that going into this you know what to expect. With that being said, we know that at CEUs by Study Notes ABA we have BIG shoes to fill!!
LOVE YA, MEAN IT!
What is your refund policy?
The short answer, no you cannot get a refund for our courses after purchase.
The long answer, once you sign up for the course (both live and recorded) you have access to our hand-crafted documents, course information, and the zoom meeting links and there is no way for us to take that back. We know that access to these documents does not mean you can #getcredit for the course, but we (and our content contributors) have spent SOO much time perfecting these documents.
We strongly urge you to double, and triple check your schedule before purchasing a live course, and be sure to read all the details before purchasing a recorded course! We get it life happens and we are real people behind the scenes here, so if this happens to you please email us at ceu@studynotesaba.com .
I missed the live course HELP!
The short answer, if you sign up for a live course the only way you can get credit is by attending the live course itself. You cannot get credit for the live course by watching the video of that course after, you must have attended the live event.
The long answer, once you sign up for the live course you have access to our hand-crafted documents, course information, and the zoom meeting links and there is no way for us to take that back. We know that access to these documents does not mean you can #getcredit for the course, but we (and our content contributors) have spent SOO much time perfecting these documents. Additionally, we are required by the BACB® to create and strictly follow our attendance procedures. Are the courses on your CEU site right now the only ones you will have?
NO WAY!! We have our amazing SNABA team, and our team of course contributors hard at work making more incredible courses. We will continue to add these courses as they are #SNABA-fied available for download or for signup.
I bought your course, now I'm #confusedAF. What do I do now?
After you purchase your course you should be able to access it. You can always access it from your “Dashboard.” If the course isn’t there right away, don’t worry wait a few minutes, refresh the page, take a sip of coffee and try again. If you are having any trouble, please email us at ceu@studynotesaba.com
HELP my course documents won't download!
Okay, deep breath, we've got you! 9/10 times When we get emails about this, it is something simple that our students can do on their end to get access to their materials. Please see the solutions listed below!
- MOST IMPORTANT: Make sure that when you are opening the documents, you click from the course lesson itself. The way that the documents are set up to prevent illegal sharing, you can only open from that button. If you saved the link for later, just re-click the button, and it will show up. Additionally, if your session timed out and you had to refresh or re-log into the website, you just need to re-click the button from your new session, and it will work!
- If you are using Adobe Acrobat Plug-in + Google Chrome: when Adobe “opens” the document in your browser, it essentially blocks it thinking it is a link being shared. We’re actively working on a long-term solution for this, but in the meantime, we are advising individuals the following when trying to download course documents with the Adobe Chrome extension to do the following: Go to your Google login > Settings page > Extensions > "un-click" Adobe Acrobat.
- If you see an error message: follow the instructions on this task analysis (scroll down to where it says “downloading the CEU info sheet” for additional troubleshooting tips).
- If you are still having trouble: We recommend either: 1. Trying a different web browser, 2. Checking your download or 3. Clearing your web browser cache. And as always feel free to email us ceu@studynotesaba.com
What is the format of your course?
We have a variety of courses to provide you.
- Our live courses will provide you with all the links you need to attend a live course at the assigned times. Like any good party we will provide you with some of our favorite party favors (i.e., helpful resources and worksheet) to take home with you. After the course you will be directed to complete a final quiz on your own time. Submission of this final exam, and a passing score will automatically send you your certificate. Note: for fastest entry it is highly recommended you download the “Zoom” application and open it at least once between signing-up for a live course and the start.
- Our recorded courses are the recorded videos from our live courses and special recorded-only courses available. You can take these at your own time and at your own pace. Follow the specific instructions for your course to know what to do!
What happens if I #fail your exam?
Take a deep breath, this isn’t THE test. You can re-take the exam again, the course will tell you specific scoring requirements for the exam before you take it. If you find that there is anything that seems #wrong please contact us at ceu@studynotesaba.com so that we can fix the problem.
How long do I have to complete this course?
FOREVER … kidding. You can buy and complete these courses on your own time, meaning access will be available on your terms.
- Live courses: You will have access to the course for 90 days after the date of the live. This means you can re-watch the course (but not for credit!) if there is a recorded option. We will always tell you when a course is "live only" in the product description, which means these courses will not have recordings available, so be sure to check before purchasing.
- Recorded courses: You will have 365 days (12 months) to complete the course from the date of purchase. Each course will note when it expires and is removed from your account.
We strive to keep all our courses updated with the most relevant research and information and may need to remove or edit courses over time. If, for some reason, you have purchased a course and it has been removed before you have had the opportunity to complete it, please send us an email at ceu@studynotesaba.com, and we will be sure to help add the course back to your account or help you find an equivalent course.
SOS! There is something wrong with my certificate, can you help?
#checkYOwork make sure that when creating your account all of the information is input correctly BEFORE you take the course and get your certificate. First, follow the steps in this task analysis to change your certification information on the website. Then, follow the steps in this task analysis to find and download your certificates. Make sure to download from “my certificates” instead of the course itself. You want to avoid going through the course again to obtain the new certificate, or else you will have to resubmit the final quizzes.
If you are still having problems, please email us at ceu@studynotesaba.com, and we will get it sorted out.

PDU Related FAQ
What's the difference between CEUs and PDUs? Which one do I need?
They're two separate BACB® designations, and they are NOT interchangeable.
- CEUs (Continuing Education Units) are for BCBA®s and BCaBA®s renewing their certification.
- PDUs (Professional Development Units) are for RBT®s renewing their certification.
A CEU course does not count toward your PDU requirement, and a PDU course does not count toward BCBA®/BCaBA® recertification — even if the topic looks similar. This is a BACB® rule, not ours. If you're an RBT®, you need PD-designated courses (this section!). If you're a BCBA® or BCaBA®, head to our CEU courses.
Quick gut check: your supervisor's CEU courses do not count toward your RBT® renewal. You need your own PD-designated training.
Wait, since when do RBT®s need continuing education?
Since January 1, 2026 ... this is brand new. Previously, RBT® renewal was an annual competency assessment signed off by your supervisor. The BACB® replaced that with a 2-year recertification cycle requiring 12 PDUs. Once you certify or recertify in 2026 or later, your 2-year PDU clock starts. The first renewals that actually require the 12 completed PDUs happen in 2028, but the earning window is now, so don't wait until month 23!
How many PDUs do I need, and how does the math work?
12 PDUs every 2-year certification cycle.
- 1 PDU = 50 instructional minutes
- 0.5 PDU = 25 instructional minutes
- PDUs are only awarded in 0.5 or 1.0 increments (no rounding up — BACB rule)
So 12 PDUs work out to about 10 hours of training over two years. That's roughly 25 minutes a month. Totally doable. #getitdone
Can I earn all 12 PDUs through your courses?
Yes. ACE Provider events are one of the BACB's approved pathways for earning PDUs, and there's no cap on how many of your 12 can come from ACE Provider courses. You can earn all 12 here, or mix and match with your other options (see next question).
**BE SURE TO DOUBLE AND TRIPLE CHECK THAT THE COURSE YOU ARE PURCHASING MATCHES YOUR CERTIFICATION LEVEL**
My employer offers in-service trainings — do I still need your courses?
Maybe not — and we'll be honest about that. The BACB gives you three ways to earn PDUs:
- ACE Provider events (that's us)
- In-service trainings run by your organization (led by a qualified BCaBA/BCBA/BCBA-D)
- University coursework in behavior analysis (1 semester credit hour = 15 PDUs)
You can mix all three. If your employer runs a full PD calendar, you might cover everything in-house for free. Our courses are for filling gaps: topics your workplace doesn't cover, hours you're missing near your deadline, or when you just want to pick what YOU learn instead of what the staff meeting covers. #doyou
What format are your PDU courses?
Video-based courses with knowledge assessments, built to the BACB®'s current requirements for PD events: video instruction from a qualified instructor, learning objectives, participation verification, and an assessment. All our PDU courses are taught by credentialed instructors (BCaBA®, BCBA®, or BCBA-D®, a BACB® requirement for PD events).
How do I report my PDUs to the BACB®?
After you complete a course, you'll receive your official documentation from us (ACE Providers use the BACB®'s RBT® Professional Development: ACE Event form). You upload your completed documents to your BACB® portal account. Keep copies of everything — your supervisor and the BACB® may need them, and audit-proof record keeping is your friend.
You'll receive your documentation from us immediately upon completion of a course.
If you do not receive an email immediately after the course has been completed, first follow the steps in this task analysis to find and download your certificates. Make sure to download from "my certificates" instead of the course itself. You want to avoid going through the course again to obtain the new certificate; otherwise, you will have to resubmit the final quizzes. Then, if you are still having problems, please email us at ceu@studynotesaba.com, and we will get it sorted out.
What topics count as PDUs?
PD content must cover or expand on the RBT® 40-hour training curriculum, the RBT® Ethics Code, other BACB® requirements, or behavior-analytic topics relevant to RBT® practice — think intervention strategies, ethics, data collection, working with families, plus applicable professional topics like communication skills and working with your supervisor. Training focused solely on one specific client's programming doesn't qualify (BACB® rule). Every course in our PDU library is built to qualify.
I'm a BCBA®/BCaBA® — can I take these PDU courses?
You can take them (learning is learning!), but they will not count toward your CEU requirement — the BACB® is explicit that BCBA®s and BCaBA®s cannot earn Learning or Teaching CEUs from RBT® PD events. If you need CEUs, our CEU library is where your recertification credit lives.
When does my PDU deadline actually hit?
It depends on your certification date. Once you certify or recertify in 2026 or later, you're on a 2-year cycle — your 12 PDUs are due by the end of that cycle. So the earliest renewals requiring PDUs land in 2028. Check your BACB® portal for your exact recertification date, and count backward. (Our unsolicited advice: 0.5–1 PDU a month beats 12 PDUs in a panic.)
Do PDU courses work with gift cards / can my employer buy them for the team?
Yes, of course! Be sure to read more about how Gift Cards work under the Gift Card FAQ. If you are interested in bulk purchasing for your clinic, please reach out to us at ceu@studynotesaba.com.
Site Related FAQ
Are you legit?
YES YES YES! We are an Authorized Continuing Education Provider (ACE) authorized by the BACB® (#OP-20-3183), so you will get credit toward your BCBA®, BCaBA®, or RBT® certification when you take courses with us.
**BE SURE TO DOUBLE AND TRIPLE CHECK THAT THE COURSE YOU ARE PURCHASING MATCHES YOUR CERTIFICATION LEVEL**
I already made an account to study for the exam do I HAVE to make a new account to take your CEUS?
Short answer, yes... Longer answer, now that you're a BCBA® or BCaBA® (mazel tov) there is different information we need from you, and for us to keep on file to provide CEUs.
Can I buy courses on my account and transfer to my employee/bff/colleague
No, no, no. Please DO NOT!!!
Why: Our website does not allow someone to just purchase a course for an account that is not theirs. The only thing we have like that on our website are our Gift Cards which can be sent to a user's email address, but this function is not one that we have available for our courses. Our website requires that each individual that is taking a course purchase that from their own account.
Will I get #credit for these courses for my BCBA® / BCaBA® / RBT® recertification?
DUH!! We know your time is #valuable so we have tailored all the courses just for you. CEUs by Study Notes ABA LLC is an Authorized Continuing Education Provider (ACE) authorized by the BACB® to offer continuing education (#OP-20-3183).
Online courses taken with us are considered Learning-type CEUs or PDUs. **BE SURE TO DOUBLE AND TRIPLE CHECK THAT THE COURSE YOU ARE PURCHASING MATCHES YOUR CERTIFICATION LEVEL**
However, you are responsible for adding these courses yourself through the BACB® website. All the information you will need can be found on your certificate after you complete the course.
Why should I take courses with you?
Because you love us … kidding. We strive to make continuing education and learning fun and relatable. We know that you want content that you can actually use and content you can apply to your actual practice.
We provide you with information that will be #realAF and helpful while you are doing your thing in the #realworld.
Do I have to make an account to take CEUs/PDUs with you?
YAAS!! You can make an account before you purchase courses or when you purchase CEUs or PDUs you will be asked to make an account. This way you will have access to all your courses, certificates, and other important stuff. Make sure that you input all of your information correctly so that your certificate has the right information.
I'm sold! How do I buy your courses?
Check out our different course options under “Courses” link on our main menu. If you are not ready to #commit on the title alone, you can read more about it and then add it to your cart to purchase it.
Behavior Bootcamp Related FAQ
What is Behavior Bootcamp, and why should I take these courses?
Our Behavior Bootcamp courses were created with both the newly-certified and the well-seasoned BCBA® and BCaBA® in mind.
Over the course of 4 separate sessions/courses (problem behavior, pairing, manding, and assessment) we take you through the ins and outs of these topics and really break down strategies to provide a further understanding of these topics as a whole with handouts and workbooks created individually for each course. Each course will provide you access to our very own library of resources as they relate to the topic, and embedded “follow-along” opportunities, allowing for a way to engage with the content itself.
We also want to be clear that while these courses are great as a continuing education resource, they are exactly that. The courses will do a ton of the "heavy lifting" for you, but at the end of the day, it is up to YOU and you alone to know exactly how to incorporate this into your practice. Just like any continuing education course, you will always have to do some "lifting" yourself. Check out our "Course Related FAQ" section to see more of what we mean by this.
Now, since we pride ourselves on being #real we won’t sugar coat anything for you. These courses are intensive. There is a lot of information to take in separately in each course and taking all four at once may be a challenge for some. We totally get that, and we know that each person learns differently. Take them at your own pace #nojudgementzone.
One last thing … if you are not yet a BCBA®/ BCaBA® we HIGHLY recommend that you wait until you pass the BACB®’s (or other governing body) exam prior to taking our Behavior Bootcamp. These courses are higher-level learning so they may be especially difficult if you are still in your master’s program or studying for an exam. This is information above and beyond what is required to sit for the exam. SO, if you are looking for study preparation materials our study prep team is where you should go!
Do I really need to download all of those files before class?
We can't make you do anything, but we can tell you that the courses that have handouts were made to include those handouts. These are incredible resources created by our instructors with specific intentions to help expand knowledge on a topic.
Many of the courses that have handouts will refer to these throughout the course, you wouldn't want #FOMO now would you?
