Description

** This course will provide the participant with 2 Ethics Learning Type BACB® CEU**

Description of Learning Type CE Event: Are you stuck in the loop of selecting generated goals from assessments, pulling from a shared library, or a goal bank? While these assistive goal generators can be helpful, they often fall into the trap of traditional ABA. If you want to refine your goal writing skills-this course is for you! We break down goal writing to produce ethical, behavioral, and anti-ableist goals using S.M.A.R.T. and behavioral ABC methodology. We’ll also dive into other assistive strategies such as Motivational Interviewing!

About the Instructor: What’s up y’all! It’s me, Nicole from the SNABA fam! I bring to your courses over 10 years of experience from a variety of settings including in homes, in clinics, and in schools. My experience across all things SNABA provides learners with an in-depth application of the science of behavior. I am in all settings an educator, taking pride in a gentle approach to learning, allowing the learner to navigate their learning experience, and develop critical thinking and autonomy (for both children and adult learners). I continue to teach undergraduate psychology courses at SNHU as an adjunct professor while pursuing my doctoral degree. My passion is sharing the benefits of science with everyone.

Target Audience: All clinicians who desire to improve goal writing to be more behavior analytic and ethical while ensuring that clients are empowered by using anti-ableist wording.

Learning Objectives for Participants:

  1. Define key terms: ableism, strengths-based model, neurodiversity
  2. Identify key ethical principles related to goal writing
  3. Identify errors in ableist goals
  4. Shift from deficit goal writing to strength-based writing
  5. Combine smart goal writing with anti-ableist methods to write clear goals for clients
