Got Trust? Get Sleep!: Sleep Assessments for Beginners #live

**This course will provide the participant with 2 General Learning Type BACB® CEUs**

Course Date: Saturday, September 9th, 2023 @ 11 am CT  (12 PM ET | 9 AM PT)

Description of Learning Type CE Event: From Nicole Shallow, M.Ed., BCBA – Founder of Your Behaviour Gal Consulting Inc. This is not your typical Sleep CEU event. I am taking you into a deeper dive of how to conduct assessments in a way that will leave your client feeling seen, heard, and supported. Assessments are not just about asking questions; it is an opportunity to build trust with the client. For any sleep support to be effective, the caregivers need to trust that you know what you are doing and that your support is aligned with their values. Through asking the right questions in a structured flow, this allows clients to share the good, the bad, and the ugly with you. During our time together, we will review two commonly used sleep assessment tools, and I will share how I have combined these tools and added additional questions/information to improve the comprehensive sleep assessment procedures. This process is tried and true across my clients, and I am excited to share it with you!

About the Instructor: Nicole Shallow is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Sleep Specialist. She is extremely passionate about this topic and has become an authority figure in the sleep education space. She has partnered with many large brands to speak about the importance of sleep, has spoken on 10+ podcasts outside of the world of behavior analysis, and is the CEO and founder of her own company, Your Behaviour Gal Consulting Inc! She has only been certified for four years and is breaking barriers both with her clients and in the online space. Nicole supports clients directly one-to-one, with a specialized focus on supporting neurodivergent children and their caregivers. She prides herself in the relationships she can build with her clients, parents, professionals, supervisees, and mentees to help be their guide toward what they truly want. Her three values are compassion, knowledge, and inclusion. These are the three words she lives by every day, and this truly reflects in her presentation style.

Target Audience: Behavior Analysts®, BCaBAs®, trainees, Occupational Therapists, Counsellors – anyone supporting clients with sleep difficulties and wanting to improve their assessment process.

Learning Objectives:  As a result of this course, participants will be able to …

  • Identify the purpose of sleep assessments and general overview of current sleep assessment templates.
  • Identify medical conditions and know. Identify who and when to refer out to a professional when scope of practice is reached.
  • Learn how to use open-ended questions to identify and gather important information about the client and the family context to inform the development of a sleep plan.
  • Learn how to use assessment procedures to identify setting events, antecedents, and consequences across the day and night that may be interfering with healthy sleep.

Five measurement mistakes I’ve made as a BCBA #live

**This course will provide the participant with 1.5 General Learning Type BACB® CEUs**

Course Date: Saturday, September 9th, 2023 @ 1:30 pm CT (2:30 pm ET | 11:30 am PT)

Description of Learning Type CE Event: Do you ever feel like now that you’re a BCBA®, you should probably know what you’re doing most days? I felt the same way. Then, I decided to admit to the world that, quite honestly, most of the time, I’m wingin’ it. This course is about me admitting that I’ve made multiple mistakes. In particular, I’ve made many mistakes when it comes to measuring and displaying data over the years. My hope is that sharing my flaws allows you to learn something new. That way, you can go out there and make some mistakes of your own. You might even consider sharing them with me someday. Maybe over a beer?

About the Instructor: Hi, I’m Chris. I started Celeration, an ABA company that is based in Northern California. The twist? We only hire BCBAs and do all of the direct work ourselves. Yup, myself included. I’ve worked in the ABA field for over ten years and have been practicing as a BCBA since 2016. I believe that we can improve the field of ABA by shifting toward a scientific approach, maintaining high clinical standards, and most importantly, connecting with the families we serve.

Target Audience: BCBAs® at all levels of practice. Primarily those who practice for insurance billing companies and practice in home or school settings.

Learning Objectives: As a result of this course, participants will be able to …

  • Evaluate the current practice they are using to define, measure, and display data in their current practice and determine if it is the best practice for their client.
  • State the advantages of measuring learning using rate instead of using a percentage.
  • State the advantages of continuous measurement and disadvantages of using discontinuous measurement in the applied setting.
  • State the advantages of measuring one behavior at a time versus attempting to measure multiple behaviors within a response class together.
  • Be able to write a pinpoint definition for a behavior and compare its effectiveness to an operational definition.
  • State the disadvantages of using line graphs to display data in behavior analysis and identify one alternative method of displaying data.
